Characteristics Of Silicone Urinary Catheters

Silicone urinary catheters are made of physiologically inert silicone material, which is odorless, non-toxic, non-corrosive, and anticoagulant. They are biocompatible and can withstand harsh sterilization conditions, retaining their strength and elasticity at temperatures as low as 300°C and -90°C. The products possess excellent biocompatibility, high-temperature sterilization resistance, and anticoagulant properties.

 

Silicone urinary catheters have a wide inner diameter, preventing the formation of calcium deposits or sediment within the lumen, thus maintaining unobstructed drainage. Compared to traditional latex, they reduce urethral irritation and allergic reactions, and can be left in place for up to 29 days. The smooth surface and good biocompatibility of silicone catheters minimize irritation to the urethral mucosa, resulting in relatively high comfort during long-term placement. Furthermore, the silicone material itself is less likely to trigger allergic reactions, making it suitable for patients with latex allergies. The moderate flexibility of silicone catheters allows them to adapt to the natural curvature of the urethra, reducing discomfort.
