The Role Of Uterine Stent

1. Uterine Support: Uterine prolapse is often caused by postpartum pelvic floor muscle damage or postmenopausal estrogen decline leading to weakened pelvic floor support structures, causing the uterus to descend from its normal position along the vagina. A uterine stent provides physical support, maintaining the prolapsed uterus in its normal anatomical position within the vagina, relieving symptoms such as lumbosacral pain, lower abdominal distension, and a feeling of a foreign body in the vagina. It is particularly suitable for patients temporarily unsuitable for surgery, such as those with serious medical conditions or those who refuse surgery, helping to improve daily activities.

 

2. Urinary Incontinence Treatment: Stress urinary incontinence often accompanies uterine prolapse. Due to weak pelvic floor support structures, increased abdominal pressure, such as coughing, laughing, or lifting heavy objects, can cause urethral sphincter insufficiency, leading to urine leakage. A uterine stent, by supporting the uterus, indirectly strengthens the overall pelvic floor support, reducing pressure or traction on the urethra, improving urinary incontinence symptoms, and enhancing the patient's quality of life. It can be used as a transitional treatment before surgery or as a conservative treatment for mild to moderate urinary incontinence.

 

3. Promotes Uterine Cavity Recovery: Intrauterine adhesions are often caused by endometrial damage from intrauterine surgeries such as abortion and curettage. Post-operative adhesions are prone to recurrence, affecting menstruation and fertility. A uterine stent is placed inside the uterine cavity to continuously stretch the space after adhesion separation, maintaining the normal shape of the uterine cavity, promoting endometrial repair and growth, reducing the risk of recurrence, helping to restore a normal menstrual cycle, and creating conditions for future conception. It usually needs to be removed after 1-3 months.
